Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 20 Today!
3+ week, 2+ day ago (1054+ words) Wow, where to start? It's official, though. It's been 20 years since I sat down and cobbled together the somewhat infamous 'Our Nintendo Life Begins' article back in late 2005, a world before iPhones, iPads, Fortnite, and YouTube wasn't even a year old yet. How times have changed. Both generally and specifically, the video game industry. When I wrote that first article, we were technically still in the GameCube era. I had really enjoyed my brief stint putting together 'GameCube UK', a website all about (you guessed it) GameCube in 2001-2002. Then, with the Nintendo 'Revolution' on the horizon, I was getting the itch to get back into running a website about games, and Nintendo Life was born. Back when the site turned 10, I penned an article that details the early years of Nintendo Life, if you are interested in that. The site's…...
UK Charts: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Is The Smallest Retail Launch Since 'Let's Go!"
4+ mon, 1+ week ago (517+ words) Sales roughly 28% lower than Arceus We're back with another look at the UK boxed charts and, surprising no one, Pok'mon Legends: Z-A has maintained its lead in the second week, with original Switch sales now starting to outpace Switch 2. Heck, with 150 million+ consoles out in the wild, we expected nothing less. However, according to Chris Dring over at The Game Business, sales are roughly 28% lower than that of Pok'mon Legends: Arceus. Going one step further, he states that Legends: Z-A is the smallest retail launch for the 'mainline' franchise since Pok'mon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee! in 2018. Now, one potential explanation for this is that Legends: Z-A was heavily pushed for the Switch 2, which naturally has a much lower install base compared to its predecessor. Switch 2 sales for the game, in general, have been stronger than that of…...

Random: The Super Mario Galaxy Games Are Full Of Secrets, And This One Is "Horribly Inefficient"
1+ mon, 3+ week ago (621+ words) Full credit to whoever discovered it Yes, as we all know, Nintendo does like to hide fun little secrets and easter eggs within its adventures, especially when it comes to stuff like the Mario Galaxy games. You know, things like the part of Buoy Base Galaxy that looks like a Pok" Ball, or Captain Olimar's S.S. Dolphin floating about in the Space Junk Galaxy. Yes, we love some clever little nods and winks. In the Super Mario Galaxy games, the staff credits text is always loaded into RAM despite not being needed until the ending. While horribly inefficient, this is inadvertently heartwarming as the games appear to honor their creators by keeping them in memory at all times. As you can see, the original social media post has at least found a nice way to frame this discovery (attributed to @HEYimheroic)…...
"We Couldn't Find Common Ground" - Nintendo Producer Explains The Tensions That Forged Metroid Prime
1+ mon, 3+ day ago (508+ words) "It took time for us to convey the concept clearly to Retro" Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective launches this month, and it includes plenty of insight into how Retro Studios and Nintendo worked together on the famous trilogy, as recounted by series producer Kensuke Tanabe. As spotted by our friends over at IGN, the book highlights some of the clashes that occurred between the North American studio and Nintendo itself during the development of the original Metroid Prime. Tanabe explains that while "Nintendo retained the final decision-making authority", there were "many instances early on where our approaches to the specifications did not align, leading to disagreements." Tanabe reveals that these disagreements would often result in day-long meetings ending in a stalemate: Given that this was Retro's first game, it's remarkable that its staff felt bold enough to challenge Nintendo " but…...

The 3DS Library Is Ripe For Switch 2, But Is NSO The Way To Go?
9+ mon, 1+ week ago (509+ words) Mo' dimensions, mo' problems But this is Nintendo that we're talking about, the company that has published more than a handful of remakes and remasters in the last two years alone and we've gobbled them up. If anyone is going to make us feel like we need to drop 50 quid on OOT for the fourth time rather than paying for a subscription, it's the Big N. I would like to see more 3DS REMAKE games on Switch 2 with singular screen like the already released 3DS games on Switch 1.I would like to see YO-KAI WATCH 3 get the Switch 2 version with every updates on cartridge. I think 3DS Should go on NSO eventually, but probably more important to do DS/GameCube first. Maybe for now we could get some remasters! I wouldn't want them to be available exclusively through NSO. I don't know why, but…...
